Acton included in proposed Ultra Low Emissions Zone (ULEZ)

There is a major official public consultation running right now concerning air pollution in London that is caused by motor vehicles.
You might have received a brochure about it through your front door in mid-January.
It is important as this will directly affect you if you live or travel inside the North Circular/South Circular boundary.

If implemented it will mean cleaner air - but, depending on the age (really the pollution level) of what you drive, you might have to pay £12.50 per day that you drive in the area (and more if you drive a van or HGV).

The current proposal from Mayor of London that is out for consultation is that:

The emissions standards for light vehicles will be:

  • Diesel cars, vans, minibuses and similar vehicles – Euro 6 NOx and PM (roughly vehicles since September 2015)
  • Petrol cars, vans and similar vehicles – Euro 4 NOx (roughly vehicles since January 2006)
  • Motorcycles, scooters, mopeds and similar vehicles – Euro 3 NOx (roughly vehicles since July 2007)

Light vehicles which do not meet these standards would need to pay a daily charge of £12.50 in order to drive in the ULEZ. This would be in addition to any applicable daily Congestion Charge in central London.

For larger vehicles the current LEZ requires vans, minibuses and similar vehicles to meet a Euro 3 PM standard or pay a daily charge of £100.
These vehicles would need to meet the ULEZ Euro 6 standard (roughly since September 2016 if diesel) or pay an additional emissions charge of £12.50 when driving in the ULEZ.

There are similar proposals for heavy goods vehicles and buses/coaches - which would target vehicles older than January 2014 with an extra £100 per day.

The proposed zone where this would apply is the whole area that is inside the North Circular/South Circular roads - so that includes Acton - and would come into force in 2021.

This consultation closes on 28 February 2018
